John Russell BA JD

John has devoted his entire legal career to advising, training, and representing Management in the complete range of Workplace Safety & Insurance Law matters, with emphasis on Claims Management, Return-to-Work, and Appeals before the WSIB and WSIAT.

He has been Certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Workplace Safety & Insurance Law since 1997.

A native Montrealer, John attended Loyola prior to moving to Toronto, where he graduated cum laude from the University of Toronto with a degree in Philosophy. He earned his Law degree at Osgoode Hall, with emphasis on Labor Relations and Employment Law. He articled with a personal injury and medical malpractice firm in Toronto, where he helped launch a constitutional challenge to the then-Workers' Compensation Act.

John was called to the Bar in 1986, and the following year, he served as an instructor in the Bar Admission Course on Workers' Compensation.

John relocated his practice from downtown Ottawa to Kanata in 2008, and he is in his 26th year of exclusively protecting the interests of Employers, from all industry and institutional sectors, before the WSIB and the WSIAT.

He is also a member of the Human Resources Professionals Association, the Ottawa Construction Association, numerous other industry and trade associations, the County of Carleton Law Association, and the International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi.

Karen Galbraith

Karen recently graduated from the Law Clerk program at Algonquin College, and has been working with John since prior to her graduation.

Following her studies at Mt. Allison University, Karen focused her academic endeavours on becoming a Law Clerk, and brings to the table a lively mind and tremendous resourcefulness – particularly when it comes to conducting legal, medical, and scientific research to help protect our clients' interests.
